Sports Report

Week beginning Monday 24th February

Girl’s Sport

Netball

The girls fixtures at the weekend became victims of the weather. However, there were plenty of midweek fixtures to keep the teams going. The U13’s travelled to an annual Hampshire netball tournament where they came up against some stiff opposition in an attempt to reach the semi’s. They lost a very close game to Worth School but, unfortunately, failed to get out of the group stage.

Both of our U15 A and B sides were uncharacteristically poor in their games versus Bedales. With both teams losing high scoring games by 24-20 and 22-18 respectively.

Girls Team of the Week – Netball 1st Team

Our first team, who have been gathering some momentum recently, defeated Bedales by a school of 9-6. Some slick movement was just too much for the opposition in the end.

Boy’s Sport

Rugby 7’s

In the first game of the season for our U15 7’s side, we took on St Edmund’s in a home fixture. Playing three thirds it was very tight going into the final third as both teams began to fatigue. However, the KESW boys found that extra little bit of resilience needed to sneak a final score to take the game 6-5

Hockey

The hockey fixtures fortunately survived the weekends weather. Coming close to winning the team of the week were the U13B side who, in a topsy-turvy game, defeated Box Hill 4-3 after nearly letting a large lead slip. The U13A side were tested against a Box Hill side that included a number of players in the U14 age group. KESW played well but didn’t quite get to the standards they have previously set and, ultimately, went down 5-3.

It was a week to forget for the older sides as both the U15A and first team suffered heavy defeats at the hands of St John’s, Leatherhead.

Boys Team of the Week – Hockey U14A

The U14A side won two games in a week. Firstly, they defeated St Edmund’s 2-1. In a close affair, KES took the lead early with Eric scoring from close range. Jake Combes added a second from a well worked short corner to put KES in control and take victory. They followed this up with an impressive 2-0 victory over St John’s, Leatherhead. Tom Maybury swooped in to give KES the lead at half time. The dominance from KES continued in the second half and player of the match Tom Maybury added his second as KES ran out deserved 2-0 winners.

Interhouse Sport

Interhouse Cross-Country took place on Friday and the points are currently being totalled up and a winner announced soon. Congratulations to Quinn Tierney, Felix Wood and Adrian Salermon for finished on the podium for the boys and well done to Fleur Marren for taking home significant points for her house by winning the girls race.

Coming up this week:

It is the second swimming gala of the year on Monday as the side travel to St Edmund’s for a round robin that includes Boundary Oak School. In Netball, our U12, U13 and first teams take on Seaford during the week. The U15 sides take on Duke of Kent whilst the triumphant U15C side return to court to take on St Edmund’s. There are U13 Hockey fixtures versus Aldro and U14, U15 and 1st Team fixtures versus Charterhouse. The boys U15 rugby side follow up their impressive win last week with further fixtures versus Box Hill and Bedales.
